When I began this project, I was well aware that my strengths lie in infrastructure rather than design and UX. Yet, diving headfirst into creating a wireframe has been more challenging than I anticipated. The process felt overwhelming at times, so I made a decision: step back and start with the basics—pen and pad.
Though I would have preferred pencil for its erasability, pen had to suffice (C’est la vie!). Sketching the concept by hand gave me a newfound clarity. There’s something grounding about seeing your ideas take shape on paper, a simplicity that fosters creativity and exploration without the distractions of digital tools.
Bringing AI Into the Mix
In the spirit of leveraging modern tools, I also explored AI-powered design tools like Uizard and Relume. These platforms offer incredible potential, but as I navigated them, I realized something crucial: AI is only as effective as the foundation you bring to the table.
For someone like me, unfamiliar with the nuances of UX design, relying solely on AI to create a wireframe felt like skipping the journey and jumping straight to the destination. The result? A product that lacked the thoughtfulness and connection I wanted to build into this project.
AI is a fantastic enhancer—it streamlines workflows and sparks ideas. But when it comes to building something meaningful, the experience of struggling, learning, and iterating is irreplaceable. By leaning on AI too heavily without understanding the design fundamentals, I risked losing the fun and challenge of the process—and, ultimately, creating an inferior product.
Visualizing and Adjusting
Sketching by hand allowed me to visualize my concept in a way that felt personal and tangible. Now, as I return to Figma, I feel more prepared to adapt the template and bring this idea to life. The groundwork I’ve laid makes it easier to make adjustments and refine the design.
That said, I’m realistic about the learning curve. This is a side project that I want to get right, so I’ll need a couple more days to truly get the hang of this process and flesh out the wireframe. While progress may be slower than expected, I’m learning to embrace the journey and the challenges it brings.
Looking Ahead
Tomorrow, the saga continues. I’ll dive deeper into refining the Figma template and balancing AI tools with manual adjustments to build something that truly reflects my vision.
This process is teaching me patience, creativity, and the importance of taking a step back when things feel overwhelming. If there’s one takeaway so far, it’s this: sometimes, the simplest tools—like a pen and pad—are the most effective starting point.
Stay tuned as I continue this adventure. Let’s see where tomorrow takes us!
